We asked Lalita some questions about her work passions, inspirations, and enjoyment activities. Learn more about her and how her relatability and authenticity supports her therapist self.
Q. How do you support clients through times when progress feels slow or stuck?
A. In therapy firstly I am always mindful of why the client is attending, what would they like from these sessions. If the client is sharing feeling stuck we reflect on what that is, sometimes this may mean do the therapy goals need adjustment or is there an expectation of the client from themselves. There are so many underlying factors that can come into consideration here therefore its important to reflect deeper. I take a client-centred approach, providing a safe space to reflect and gauge where they are trying to reach.
Q. What’s a piece of advice or wisdom you return to often?
A. We can never change the past, but we can learn grow from this and reach a place that feel comfortable.
Q. Coffee, tea, or something else entirely?
A. Green flavored tea in the morning. Then a cup of tea or a mug of coffee in the evening, after my dinner. In winter Cadburys hot chocolate summer lots of water and I try and infuse this with mint and/or cucumber so refreshing!
Q. How do you support clients who are new to therapy or feeling nervous about starting?
A. Just to put it out there when meeting a new client I feel a little nervous too, at the same time excited to see what this journey will bring. One big piece of the work is to build a therapeutic relationship, I offer lots of space for questions, share what therapy with me looks like, introducing them to the space and the facilities, really focusing on creating a safe space where the client feels they can say anything. Most importantly ensuring they feel a part of their therapy and having input into their goals from the sessions and that I am there to walk alongside them.
