Getting to Know a Thrive Therapist: Jessica Snider

ree

Jessica Snider, MSW, HBSW, RSW

We asked Jessica some questions about her work passions, inspirations, and enjoyment activities. Learn more about her and how her relatability and authenticity supports her therapist self.

Q. How do you continue learning and growing as a clinician?

A. Continuing education is one of my passions as it allows me to provide the best possible care to my clients. I love learning from my clients during our time together - we all bring so many different experiences and wisdom with us and I feel so grateful to be in a position to engage in so many meaningful conversations. Informally, I love a good book (currently rereading Gabor Mate’s Scattered Minds) or podcast to explore new concepts and deeper my understanding of others. Formally, it is a strong value of mine as a Social Worker to continue regularly engaging in reputable trainings and consultations.

Q. What’s something that brings you joy or helps you unwind outside of work?

A. Spending time with my family and getting the opportunity to intentionally move my body are how I fill my own cup. Both of these are even more effective in helping me unwind and recharge if I can be outside in nature.

Q. What’s your idea of a perfect day off?

A. My idea of the perfect day off is a slow day at the lake with a good book, and my loved ones. I have always felt more at peace when I’m near bodies of water and it’s definitely where I gravitate when I start to feel depleted. Life can get hectic and overwhelming when we get caught up with the responsibilities and often unrealistic  expectations of ourselves in a society that values fast paced productivity. I try to be very intentional about slowing down and engaging mindfully to help nourish and regulate my nervous system on my days off.

Q. What’s something you value most in the therapeutic relationship?

A. One of the most valuable aspects for a therapeutic relationship to form and to thrive is authenticity from both myself and the client. I strive to create a warm, calm, accepting environment so individuals can feel as safe as possible showing up as their authentic selves. This can sometimes feel uncomfortable or messy at times, especially if you’ve had to mask or adopt a role self to survive and endure challenging dynamics. Im forever grateful for every client that continues to show up and share their story with me, exploring together the connections and pathways to move forward.
