Hey, I'm Marissa

I work with clients to cultivate curiosity and presence towards the challenges life brings forward, helping connect them to their broader purpose and authentic self.

A Little About Me

Hello! I'm so happy you are taking the time to research your therapist, because I believe that the client-therapist fit is one of the most crucial parts of what makes therapy helpful. I take a relational, client-centred approach in all the work that I do, especially in the first few sessions.

I believe it is so important for sessions to focus on what my clients think will be most helpful, and to really work with them to figure out how to bring them closer to the life that they envision for themselves. Although I work diligently through supervision and self-reflection to withhold my own agenda, I am far from a "blank-slate" therapist. I am compassionate, expressive, and enjoy using humour in-session (where appropriate), as I believe that great healing can take place in a setting where two people are allowed to be themselves, without judgement.

I enjoy working with adults and older teenagers (16+), and am particularly passionate about working with young adults, individuals with ADHD, and those experiencing difficulties in their relationships, whether that be with a romantic partner, friend, coworker, or family member. I have experience working with a variety of presenting concerns, including anxiety, depression, grief, life transitions, relationship conflict, self-criticism, and emotional dysregulation.

Taking a client-centred approach also means that I pull from a variety of therapeutic modalities depending on the person sitting across from me in the therapy office. My primary modality is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and I also draw from compassion-focused, relational/humanistic, and existential approaches. I work from a trauma-informed perspective, ensuring that clients are provided ample education on the effects of trauma, how it might be related to their everyday behaviour patterns, and most importantly, creating a safe, respectful, and empowering environment where the client shares their story only if and when it feels "right."

Outside of session, I can be found snuggling my dog Juniper, reading a book, breaking my back over a puzzle, going for a walk, perusing local thrift stores, struggling through a workout class, and eating good food with friends and family.

If you are looking to work with someone who will show up authentically and meet you where you're at, I would love to hear from you!
