Hey, I'm Afsana

I ground my work in a person-centred and compassionate approach, where I create space for the client to slow down, reflect, and understand themselves more deeply.

A Little About Me

One of the things I value most about therapy is that it gives us permission to slow down. In a world that often expects quick answers and constant movement, therapy offers a place to pause, reflect, and approach ourselves with greater curiosity and compassion.

I believe that understanding ourselves creates the foundation for meaningful change. Rather than rushing to find answers, I believe there is value in taking the time to understand what has shaped our experiences, relationships, and sense of self. Having lived and worked across cultures on multiple continents, I have come to appreciate that no two people experience the world in the same way.

My work is grounded in a person-centred approach, recognizing that you are the expert in your own life. I believe meaningful growth begins when we feel understood and supported within an authentic therapeutic relationship. To meet your unique needs, I draw from Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Narrative Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and systems theory. In our work together, you can expect a warm and compassionate environment where you feel safe to explore your experiences at your own pace.

I work with teens (14+), adults, and families navigating concerns such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, grief, and life transitions. Whether you are facing a specific challenge or simply hoping to better understand yourself and your relationships, I am committed to offering a collaborative, culturally-responsive environment where you feel heard, respected, and supported.

I am currently completing my Master's of Arts in Counselling Psychology and have supported newcomers through community-based work and volunteered with the CMHA Support Line. At Thrive, I am working under the guidance and supervision of Ashley Amicarelli, a Registered Psychotherapist with years of professional experience.

Outside of work, I love growing my own vegetables and turning them into meals for family and friends. When I'm not pottering around in my garden or my kitchen, you'll find me curled up with my cats either reading or watching a movie. I also love learning languages and am currently challenging myself to learn French, Spanish, and German, all at the same time! I end each day by taking a moment to reflect with gratitude for having had another day to learn and live.

If you're looking for a therapist who values genuine connection, I invite you to book a free 15-minute consultation. My hope is that our conversations become a place where you feel understood and free to explore your experiences at your own pace, without feeling that you have to have all the answers.

"Unlike self-criticism, which asks if you're good enough, self-compassion asks what's good for you." — Kristin Neff
